Optical business management strategies for supporting community-based eye health programs

Community-based eye health programs require not only clinical competence but also managerial capacity to support service implementation and program continuity. This study aims to analyze optical business management strategies in supporting community-based eye health programs, identify key managerial factors contributing to the implementation and sustainability of the SESAMA II program, and develop a case-based conceptual framework for socially oriented optical business management. This study employed a document-based qualitative case study design. The empirical materials consisted of SESAMA II activity reports, program documentation, non-participant observation notes, and internal reflective discussion notes. The data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns related to optical service planning, resource management, stakeholder coordination, and program sustainability. The findings indicate four main managerial themes: community-based service planning, operational resource management, strategic stakeholder collaboration, and social value orientation in optical service delivery. These themes suggest that community-based optical service programs depend on the configuration of service design, resource coordination, stakeholder involvement, and social objectives. The study contributes by offering a case-based conceptual understanding of socially oriented optical business management in the context of community-based eye health programs. Rather than presenting a validated causal model, the framework developed in this study provides a context-specific interpretation of how optical business management practices may support community-based service delivery and sustainability-oriented program capacity.
